CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 217, "BUS EMERGENCY EXITS AND WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE." THERE IS INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE SIDE DESTINATION SIGN AND THE WINDOW FRAME THAT WILL NOT ALLOW THE WINDOW TO OPEN SUFFICIENTLY.
DURING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THE FIRST EMERGENCY EGRESS WINDOW LOCATED ON THE CURB SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE ENTRANCE DOOR, WILL NOT OPEN SUFFICIENTLY TO ALLOW A PERSON TO ESCAPE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, WHICH COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
NABI WILL INSPECT AND RELOCATE THE SIDE DESTINATION SIGN TO ELIMINATE THIS INTERFERENCE. THE RECALL BEGAN AUGUST 27, 2004. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NABI AT 1-888-424-5844, EXT. 7900.
