THE WINDOW LATCH AND LOCK COMPONENTS MAY NOT BE PROPERLY ALIGNED; CONSEQUENTLY, THE STAINLESS STEEL KEEPER "STRIKER" MAY CAUSE WEAR ON THE ALUMINUM LATCH. OPERATION OF THE WINDOW LATCH CAN BECOME MORE DIFFICULT. WINDOWS IN THE AFFECTED COACHES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 217, "BUS WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE".
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND ALIGN LATCH COMPONENTS. THE SPECIFIC REPAIR PROCEDURE DEPENDS ON THE MAUFACTURER OF THE WINDOW.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: INTERCITY BUSES.SYSTEM: VISUAL SYSTEMS; WINDOW LATCH AND LOCK MECHANISMS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: BECAUSE OF THE MISALIGNMENT AND WEAR, THE FORCEREQUIRED TO RELEASE THE LATCH COULD EXCEED 20 LBS. IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT ORFIRE, DIFFICULTY IN OPENING THE WINDOWS COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO PASSENGERS.
