VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES.SYSTEM: INTERIOR; SEAT BACK PAD.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE ALL FOAM SEAT BACK UTILIZED IN THE INVOLVEDVEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE PREMATURE IN-SERVICE DETERIORATION AND CRACKING OF THEFOAM AT THE TOP FRONT SURFACE OF THE SEAT BACK AND BARRIER PAD. AS A RESULT,THESE VEHICLES DO NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222,"SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION".CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, SEVERE CRACKING WILL BEEVIDENCED BY A VISIBLE LINE OR DISTORTION UNDER THE SEAT COVERING. THIS COULDLESSEN THE ENERGY ABSORBING EFFECT OF THE FOAM, THUS INCREASING THE CHANCES OFINJURY. |
