KYMCO "KYMCO USA" is recalling certain model year 2016 K-Pipe motorcycles manufactured March 1, 2016, to May 25, 2016. In the affected models, the gear shift pattern was assembled in a reverse sequence when compared to the standard setup. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard "FMVSS" number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."
If the motorcycle shifts opposite of other motorcycles, a rider may be confused and may select the wrong gear, adversely affecting control of the motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.
KYMCO will notify owners, and dealers will repair the motorcycles, free of charge. The recall began on July 13, 2016. Owners may contact KYMCO customer service at 1-888-235-3417.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 'TTY 1-800-424-9153', or go to www.safercar.gov.
