Ford Motor Company "Ford" is recalling certain electronic power assist steering "EPAS" gears, sold as replacement service parts for certain 2018-2023 Mustang, 2018-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition, and 2018-2021 Navigator vehicles. The secondary steering torque sensor may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver's intentions.
A steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the Power Steering Control Module "PSCM" software or provide a refund, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed August 23, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, Anticipated 4th Quarter 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S45.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 'TTY 1-800-424-9153', or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
