UNDER HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES "GREATER THAN 95 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT" AND THE FUEL TANK LEVEL BETWEEN 1/4 AND 1/2 FULL, THE FUEL TANK INTERNAL PRESSURE CAN INCREASE CAUSING THE TANK TO EXPAND. TANK EXPANSION CAUSES AN INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK PROTECTIVE SHIELD AND THE PROPELLER SHAFT RESULTING A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK AT THE POINT OF SHIELD-TO-SHAFT CONTACT.
THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE, AND IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SUPPLEMENTAL FUEL TANK VENTING SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES.
